Frequently asked questions
How do I find a vet that is open for emergencies?
Open the "Emergency vets near me" page from the menu and tap "Near me": the map shows the closest emergency clinics with a call button. You can also pick your city. Always call before you travel to confirm they can take your animal.
My pet is sick in the middle of the night: what should I do?
First call a clinic open for emergencies: staff will tell you whether to come in. Keep your animal warm and calm, and do not give any human medication without professional advice.
When should I take my cat or dog to the emergency vet?
Go without delay for trouble breathing, bleeding that does not stop, seizures, collapse, a swollen hard belly, repeated vomiting, being unable to urinate (especially a male cat straining without result), an injury (fall, car, bite) or if your pet swallowed a poison. When in doubt, call the clinic: they will advise you.
My dog ate chocolate: what should I do?
Call a veterinary clinic right away, even if your dog seems fine. The danger depends on the type of chocolate (dark chocolate and cocoa are the riskiest), the amount and your pet's weight. Have the wrapper at hand and do not induce vomiting unless staff tell you to.
Which foods are dangerous for dogs and cats?
Chocolate, grapes and raisins, onion and garlic, xylitol (a sweetener found in some gums and nut butters), alcohol, caffeine and cooked bones are the best known. Read our article on dangerous foods in "Discover".
How much does an emergency vet visit cost?
The price varies by clinic, time of day and the care needed (exam, tests, imaging, hospitalization). Many emergency clinics ask for a deposit on arrival. Always ask for an estimate before treatment: staff should explain it to you.
How do I choose a groomer or boarding for my pet?
Visit the premises if you can, ask which vaccines are required, how emergencies are handled and whether animals are supervised at all times. For boarding, try a short trial stay. Compare services near you with the home page search.
Are the listings verified? How do I add my business?
Each new listing is checked against an official source before it is published, but hours can change: confirm by phone. The basic listing is free: fill in "Add my business" and it is published within 7 to 10 business days.
