Heatstroke in Dogs: Signs and What to Do

Heatstroke is a serious veterinary emergency that can be fatal within minutes.

Signs to recognize

• Heavy, loud panting
• Bright red or bluish gums
• Excessive drooling
• Unsteady gait, disorientation
• Collapse

What to do immediately

• Move the dog to shade
• Wet them with lukewarm water (not ice-cold)
• Offer a bit of water if conscious
• Head to a veterinary clinic immediately
